I
run the local incarnation of the "The Problem Solving Competition", a
national competition. This means that I select the problems monthly
from the suggestions of the national organizers and local faculty.
Participating in this contest could qualify you for the US National
Collegiate Mathematics Championship, but the real reason you should
participate is for the enjoyment of solving the problem. It is
definitely more challenging (and when successful, rewarding) to attack
a problem that isn't part of a homework assignment.
Partial solutions, including special cases and solutions to similar-sounding problems, are encouraged! Also, related computer programs and graphs are encouraged.
The third problem set is due in February 2007.
The
second problem set ran in November 2006.
The
first problem set ran in December 2005.
