The data sets for the homework are on the web page as one big file. To read them into your R session use:

source("http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/verzani/classes/MTH214/mm.R")

Then you can access the files through pmg (they load into the variable mm) or you may access them from the command line. For the latter, you might want to attach a chapter, as in

attach(mm)
attach(Ch01) # say
names(Ch01)  # lists all variable names 
ta01_007     # show data in table 7 from chapter 01

For those not in class last Monday, we postponed test 1 to the 22nd of October (from the 15th) so that we can have a little more material.

In class I've been mentioning that one can use a spreadsheet to do most of the homework problems etc, but have said excel is known to have issues. In this article are several references to such: Excel issues. There is also an interesting point about excel incorrectly computing 850*77.1 (which is just shy of 2 to the 16th.)

THat's right, I asked you about time plots which we are going to skip, as we don't come back during the term to that concept.

Have fun. Keep in mind that there are many more and different questions that I could ask on this material.

I've posted some questions for the new material that will appear on the final exam. The final is comprehensive. At a minimum, you should make sure you can do both mid-terms and both review sheets.

MTH 113 specific tutoring is available!

  Additionally, the math department offers tutoring in 1S-214. There are some tutors that know the MTH 113 material. Look for Eric M, Sandrine, Eric L, Kara, and perhaps others.

A review for the MTH 113 final exam is online. This exam is comprehensive. The new material is covered in the first problem. I didn't included problems on graph reading, but be assured I may on the final.

The first exam in MTH 113 is schedule for March 5. You will have both hours to complete the exam.

The review and answers for the test on 11/29 are now available. There was an ommitted assumption in the second to last proof. Assume the group is Abelian.

Hi Class, enjoying your break? I wrote up answers for homeworks 1 and 2 and put them online. Later on I'll put some homework up for the last lecture on probability.

The homework for the lecture on 2/8 is now posted as hw-3.pdf. Please do this by class on the 15th.

Well to save money, we decided to use this book for the class text: Using R for Introductory Statistics

Currently the book is going for 26.07.

Readers are saying the following: "This is a great stater book for basic statistics.And for being used for 28 bucks you can not go wrong." Well an amazon.com reader anyways.

I will mix in homework assignments from this book, but will still add some additional problems, as necessary.

Homework 2 appears as a PDF file on the left once you are in the class directory. Do this, and homeworks 1 and 3, by class on Wednesday the 15th.
